Taw and Torridge chooses Mercedes‑Benz with two new Tourismo L coaches.

Established in 1976 by Mr Tony Hunt, family‑run Taw and Torridge is an award‑winning private hire operator based in Barnstaple, North Devon. With a large and loyal customer base to cater for, Taw and Torridge’s range of travel solutions includes but is not limited to private hire, home‑to‑school transport, scheduled bus routes and recovery services. Furthermore, the operator provides unique chauffeur packages; vintage car and coach hire for special occasions such as weddings, birthdays and anniversaries.

Seating 61 with W/C on a fourteen‑metre chassis, both new Mercedes‑Benz Tourismo L coaches will provide absolute comfort with Travel Star Eco Plus upholstery seats, fold out tray tables and footrests. Passengers will enjoy the additional luxuries of at‑seat USB charging sockets, double‑tinted windows and aisle flooring in luxury wood‑effect design complemented by blue LED lighting for an additional premium feeling. The Driver will enjoy specification highlights including a leather steering wheel, heated seat and exterior periphery lighting for reverse gear – combined with a reversing camera to support manoeuvring safety in low‑light environments.

Delivering greater visibility for the driver, the two coaches are also supplied with MirrorCam. The newest innovation for Tourismo, the camera‑based technology provides a clear and full view of the road and traffic, allowing for an extended field of vision for the driver.

Safety specification highlights include a factory‑installed, power‑operated wheelchair lift and destination displays at the front, side and rear of the coach, all as part of full PSVAR compliancy.

Active Brake Assist 6, Sideguard Assist 2 and Traffic Sign Assist also join the Tourismo as part of GSR specification.

Power to the new Tourismo L coaches is supplied by the Mercedes‑Benz OM 470, 315 kW Euro VI engine with a ZF Ecolife 2 6‑speed transmission.

The two new Mercedes‑Benz Tourismo L coaches delivered to Taw and Torridge were supplied by Mercedes‑Benz Coach Sales at Daimler Buses UK Ltd.
