January 2026 saw arrival of two Mercedes‑Benz Citaro Euro VI hybrids for NEC services.

• Operated by Skills Group
• Supporting rapid transit at the NEC
• Joining an existing Mercedes‑Benz fleet

Undertaking high‑capacity rapid transit in and out of the NEC Campus, the NEC Group take delivery of two Mercedes‑Benz Citaro Euro VI hybrid buses to be operated by Skills Group. The vehicles enter service providing vital transport links between the exhibition centre and Arena, nearby hotels and both Birmingham International Railway Station and Airport; the Citaro buses will also support high profile events by fulfilling the site’s park-and-ride operations.

Equipped to a bespoke specification, the two buses deliver on versatility while treating passengers to all the usual Mercedes‑Benz refinements. A custom interior with City Star Eco seating in grey/brown two‑tone adds an inviting design touch; seating for 28 is provided with additional standing capacity on a 12‑metre chassis with two nearside entry/exit doors.

Choosing Mercedes‑Benz once again: joining an existing Mercedes‑Benz dominated bus fleet at the NEC, the latest vehicles fulfil a new brief which successfully sees the 2026 vehicles provide greater accessibility in addition to greater seated capacity when compared with previous years’ Citaro buses. The outcome of in‑factory support by the Mercedes‑Benz design studio in Mannheim, the new Citaro buses deliver two back‑to‑back wheelchair spaces and a buggy space without compromising on passenger comfort and capacity.

A GSR‑compliant safety specification ensures protection for all on board while additional equipment highlights include wood‑effect flooring, interior passenger ambient lighting and, for the driver, MirrorCam – marking the first Citaros in the UK to be delivered with the Mercedes‑Benz camera‑based mirror system.

The 2026 Mercedes‑Benz Citaro Euro VI hybrid buses were delivered to Skills Group by Mercedes‑Benz Bus Sales at Daimler Buses UK Ltd.
