Tailored charging infrastructure solution from Daimler Buses Schweiz AG.
“This was an exciting challenge that we mastered in close cooperation with partners and customers,” says Philip Howald from Daimler Buses Schweiz AG about the commissioning of the eCitaro and the associated charging infrastructure at the Swiss bus company Globe Limo SA. After all, the conversion of the bus fleet from diesel to electric drive and the set‑up of the necessary charging infrastructure took place during ongoing operation under the lead supervision of Daimler Buses Schweiz AG.
Electric buses and infrastructure from a single source.
Globe Limo SA operates in the Geneva region on behalf of Transports Publics Genevois (TPG). The enterprise has chosen Daimler Buses as its partner for the switch to electric mobility and has purchased 18 eCitaro buses and the associated charging infrastructure. The implementation on the Globe Limo SA depot site was about developing the infrastructure so that as many vehicles as possible could fit on the site without affecting charging processes or operations.
We have evolved from a traditional diesel bus supplier to a provider of an overall system for eMobility.

Proactive electrification of the depot.
A total of 14 rectifiers with 28 charging points were installed, because in addition to the Mercedes‑Benz eCitaro buses already ordered, other electric vehicles are also being charged at the depot. A particular challenge during commissioning was therefore to ensure cross‑vehicle compatibility so that all functions - in particular the preconditioning of the buses - can be guaranteed smoothly. The Swiss enterprise is thus laying the foundation for a future‑proof, electric transformation.

Changeover during bus operation.
The decision was made to install an outdoor charging infrastructure, with Globe Limo SA implementing an innovative container solution. The chargers, known as mega‑chargers, were housed in containers - the containers themselves were placed on specially cast foundations. Two containers with charging stations were set up for each transformer station, creating a charging infrastructure for 28 vehicles in total. While the infrastructure was being built on the site, normal bus operations continued. “But there was no damage, neither to the buses nor to the plant,” says Philip Howald with a laugh.

Reliable partners throughout the project.
The system is completed by a scaffolding under which the Mercedes‑Benz eCitaro buses are loaded and over which the lines run. Here, the scaffolding had to be reduced to a minimum, while at the same time bearing the weight of the cables. This task was also successfully mastered. The decisive factor was the good interaction between all the players, emphasises Philip Howald. Daimler Buses Schweiz AG assumed a central coordination role and acted as a link between all partners and suppliers involved. This close coordination enabled the extensive and technically demanding project to be implemented efficiently and successfully completed.
