BlueEFFICIENCY Power

With its development of environmentally friendly, innovative drive technology, Mercedes-Benz has remained true to its pioneering role. Despite the tougher requirements, our engineers have as usual succeeded in keeping fuel consumption low.

Its strong powertrain ensures that the Intouro provides outstanding output in every type of application. The OM 936 BlueEFFICIENCY Power engine with BlueTEC® 6 technology offers both exceptional economy and high environmental compatibility. Its in-line six-cylinder engine with 7.7 litres displacement operates in output stages of 220 kW/300 hp and as an option with 260 kW/354 hp. The unit develops torque of 1,200 or 1,400 Nm respectively between 1,100 and 1,600 rpm.

Even the standard Mercedes‑Benz GO 190 six-speed manual transmission provides a high level of driving comfort. The optionally available automatic transmission and the automated manual transmission provide even greater comfort. Besides improved driving comfort, they also offer better economy. This results in highest possible efficiency coupled with maximum engine output and excellent driving dynamics. Even below 1,000 rpm, the diesel gets down to work powerfully, reducing consumption and noise in the process. Thanks to a more rigid crankcase and new turbocharging technology, the Intouro accelerates more gently, quietly and powerfully – even at higher speeds. High manufacturing quality reduces friction and oil consumption to a minimum. The maintenance intervals are up to 90,000 kilometres.

The Mercedes-Benz design engineers strive for trendsetting solutions in all fields: the wear-free retarder brake uses the engine coolant as a braking and cooling medium, and not oil. This saves approximately 30 kilogrammes of weight and does away with maintenance – at the same time increasing overall efficiency. The retarder brake is available on request for manual and automated transmissions.

Mercedes-Benz OM 936 BlueEFFICIENCY Power engine, vertical in-line six-cylinder engine, compliant with Euro VI standard, 7.7 l displacement. Output: 220 kW (299 hp) at 1800 rpm. The corresponding torque is 1,200.

The engine has a common-rail injection system. The injection pressure is created by a high-pressure pump.

The new integrated retarder can produce up to 3,500 Nm braking torque. It is designed as a secondary retarder and uses the engine coolant as a braking and cooling medium. The previously necessary oil/water heat exchanger has disappeared, as has the oil change for the retarder.

Another innovation is the virtually wear and maintenance-free transmission. Thanks to a centrally located, pneumatically operated clutch cylinder, mechanical parts such as clutch release fork, clutch bearings and clutch booster have been dispensed with.

The new Mercedes-Benz BlueEFFICIENCY Power engine compliant with Euro VI is combined with the Mercedes-Benz PowerShift automated transmission. As usual, the driver benefits from the progressive gradation of the transmission and rapid yet comfortable gear changes. The gear ratio ranges from 6.57 in first gear to 0.63 in top gear. The transmission description makes it clear that it is approved up to a maximum engine torque 2,500 Nm. A heat exchange system maintains the oil temperature in the transmission at an operating temperature of approximately 80 degrees. This has a positive effect on the transmission oil change intervals.

This innovative manual transmission provides real support for the driver. The driver only needs to steer – and choose the right gear if using manual mode – the transmission control unit deals with everything else.
