Safety in the event of an accident

Safety in the event of an accident

If you are travelling in a bus or a coach, you can rely on high safety – especially in a Mercedes-Benz bus. If an accident should nevertheless occur, however, the stable annular frame design provides driver and passengers with a high degree of protection.

Partition walls, handrails and special seats made of energy-absorbing materials contribute further to safety.

The rigidity of the bus body is an important factor which enhances the passive safety of the bus. Its resistance can help avoid the consequences of an accident. The high rigidity of the bus body of Mercedes-Benz buses is enhanced by weight-optimised annular frames around the body. The rigidity is defined in accordance with regulation ECE-R 66/02. This defines the precise "survival space" which must be ensured by the design in the event of an accident.

Building safe vehicles is the major aim within the integral safety concept of Mercedes-Benz. This includes all measures which can help reduce the consequences of an accident. Thus an important part of our work sees us obtaining precise information from the emergency services: after all, detailed knowledge about our vehicles and their safety systems can help rescue teams reach injured people more quickly. This can save lives.
