UITP Summit 2025: 4 highlights.

Focussing on electric mobility for buses.

Daimler Buses showcases the world premiere of the NMC4 battery generation as well as many new services and eMobility solutions at the UITP Summit 2025 in Hamburg.

Between 15 and 18 June, Daimler Buses showed off the Mercedes‑Benz eCitaro with the latest NMC4 high-voltage battery generation for the first time. The stand in Hall 4 at Hamburg's trade fair grounds centred on sustainability, economy and the digitisation of electric mobility for city buses. At the event, Daimler Buses Solutions' charging infrastructure planning and implementation was just as popular as OMNIplus digital services.

Announced in as early as last autumn, on show for the first time now: the eCitaro with the latest, fourth generation of lithium‑nickel‑manganese‑cobalt high‑voltage batteries celebrated its world premiere at the UITP Summit 2025 in Hamburg. The new NMC4 battery is capable of storing 13 percent more energy than the previous NMC3 generation with the same size. With maximum battery equipment, this gives the rigid bus a range of up to 500 km and up to 400 km for the articulated bus, depending on topography, ambient temperature and driving style. In addition to the energy density, its service life has also been improved, regardless of whether the battery is charged slowly with a maximum charging capacity of 150 kW during regular fast‑charging operations with up to 300 kW of charging power. Reason enough for Daimler Buses to guarantee a service life of up to twelve years for the new NMC4 batteries. Starting in 2026, the new NMC4 batteries will go into series production in the eCitaro, eCitaro G, and eCitaro K.

We bring the e: at the Daimler Buses Solutions booth, customers were able to obtain comprehensive information about eMobility solutions for their operations.

Many visitors to the UITP Summit 2025 are dealing with the challenges of switching to electric mobility. Daimler Buses Solutions GmbH is taking a holistic approach to e‑mobility systems and actively accompanies transport operators on their path to electromobility – from feasibility analyses and individually configured electric buses to the complete eMobility infrastructure at the depot. More than 40 custom projects with customers across Europe have already been completed, not only for large transport operators, but also for medium‑sized, owner‑managed bus operators.

At the UITP Summit, visitors were able to find out about new services and offers that help make everyday operations for electrified fleets easier. For example, Daimler Buses Solutions now also offers maintenance and service for chargers by its own service technicians. A further, new feature is the Charging‑as‑a‑Service offer for customers aiming to not invest in the development of charging infrastructure themselves. Daimler Buses will install the charging infrastructure at the customer’s depot at its own expense and take care of operation and maintenance. Customers pay a pre‑agreed amount per kilowatt hour to charge the buses.

The OMNIplus service brand also showcased a new feature at the UITP Summit 2025 – OMNIplus ON monitor tracking services plus. Thanks to this digital service, fleet operators can define up to 25 speed zones in which Mercedes‑Benz and Setra‑branded buses featuring B2E electronics structure identify when they enter a defined zone on the basis of positioning data. The zones can be easily marked out on a digital map of the respective deployment area and transferred to the vehicles registered in the system.

When a bus from the fleet enters the digitally designated area, the bus' speed limiter function automatically activates and the vehicle coasts gently until it reaches the set maximum speed of between 15 and 85 km/h. This has the potential to reduce fines as well as road traffic collisions and increase safety. Talking about safety: it goes without saying that the driver can also manually cancel the limiter in hazardous situations by initiating a kick‑down.

“The UITP Summit in Hamburg was a great opportunity to showcase our digital procurement solutions for spare parts. I was particularly pleased with the open‑minded exchange with interested parties and colleagues.”

Conversations with visitors to the Daimler Buses stand at the UITP Summit 2025 made one thing clear: digital services are becoming increasingly important in the everyday operations of many bus operators, as they make it possible to operate vehicles even more efficiently, economically and safely. This is where Daimler Buses enters into the equation, offering an ample range of digital services with OMNIplus ON. from Uptime and Uptime pro online remote diagnosis to tracking services, consumption and driving behaviour analyses, and the “Remote Charge Control” system for managing electric bus charging.

The Digital Service Package is available as a free‑of‑charge option for all new buses to enable as many customers as possible to experience the benefits of digital services and make them even more easily accessible. Buyers of new Mercedes‑Benz and Setra‑branded buses will thus have access to the digital services included in the package for three years. Customers will be able to use the digital services free of charge for up to six years with new battery‑electric eCitaro, eCitaro fuel cell and later also eIntouro vehicles. After the end of the term, customers will have the option of continuing to use the services at a reduced package price.

The range was determined internally under specific conditions, including equipment with maximum battery capacity, battery in delivery condition, in typical intercity bus operation and moderate weather scenario, and may deviate from the values determined in accordance with Regulation (EU) 2017/2400, for example. The actual range depends on the individual use of the vehicle, the vehicle configuration and other external factors. Therefore, the actual range may be below or above the specified value.
