28 eCitaro G buses for Kiel: Daimler Buses wins EU-wide tender.

Leinfelden-Echterdingen/KVG Kieler Verkehrsgesellschaft mbH (KVG) and Daimler Buses have signed a contract for the delivery of 28 battery-electric Mercedes-Benz eCitaro articulated buses. In addition, the agreement includes an option for five additional vehicles. This was preceded by the winning of an EU-wide tender.

The signing of the contract was attended by KVG Managing Director Andreas Schulz, Mayor Dr. Samet Yilmaz, Markus Fischer, Head of German Public Transport Sales and Authorities at Daimler Buses, KVG Operations and Technology Director Anneke Borchert, KVG Commercial Director Hauke Evers and Lino Janke and Thorsten Gallo from the Daimler Buses sales organisation.

“With the procurement of the new eCitaro G, KVG is continuing its consistent expansion of emission-free mobility,” says KVG Managing Director Andreas Schulz. The enterprise’s fleet currently comprises 218 vehicles, including 122 electric buses.

The decisive factors in favour of the Mercedes-Benz eCitaro G were, in particular, the operating and consequential costs, technical requirements of the KVG, the high-voltage concept and sustainability aspects. Delivery of the vehicles will begin with a third-party vehicle in the third quarter of 2027. The total delivery of all 28 eCitaro G buses will take place in the fourth quarter of 2027 and in the first quarter of 2028.

The new electric articulated buses are designed as four-door vehicles and feature modern NMC4 battery technology. Each bus is equipped with five battery packs, each with an energy capacity of 111 kWh. The vehicles are charged via a pantograph.
