A bus and the diversity it offers.

The secret to the success of all Citaro models is the tried-and-trusted Citaro modular system. Thanks to it the Citaro covers every requirement in interurban transportation. From solo coach to articulated bus, from consistent low-floor design to Low Entry variants: For every requirement there is a suitable vehicle at the ready. But irrespective of vehicle model – the base of its great overall economy is the standardised modular system with its part similarity. This makes the Citaro a best-seller worldwide and a well-loved standard bearer for the brand's image.

One for all.

Striking design, perceptible comfort, comprehensive safety, a superb environmental balance, excellent quality and compelling economic efficiency make the Citaro the benchmark among public service interurban buses. It also offers an amazing range of variations, making it the ideal vehicle for interurban transport operation.

Always at the forefront.

Mercedes-Benz has always been a pioneer in the development of innovative drive technologies. One of these, BlueEFFICIENCY Technology, has set standards for city and interurban buses. This was fitted in the Citaro as early as 2012. Equipped with environmentally friendly Euro VI engines, the Citaro Ü has once again become the benchmark for interurban buses.

A good, clean job.

Right from the start even the production of the Citaro interurban bus is exemplary in ecological terms. For example, the cathodic dip priming process (KTL) is largely solvent-free. The Citaro has been available since 2007 with the “Blue Angel” environmental label. And, on reaching the end of a successful service life, its components are particularly suitable for recycling.

Consistent quality.

More than any other manufacturer we at Mercedes-Benz stand for high quality. The Citaro interurban bus is produced in the world’s most advanced bus production plants. Every part undergoes extensive tests and strict controls – for a long bus life and exemplary economic performance.

Quality and Environment

The quality philosophy of Mercedes-Benz.

All of the Citaro Ü's components are extensively tested before going into production. And after each production stage strict checks are made to help guarantee a perfect finish After all, it is a part of the Mercedes-Benz quality philosophy to continually test and optimise manufacturing processes. So that you can count on being able to include your Citaro Ü in your upcoming schedule.

Environment.

Bus travel is one of the most environmentally friendly forms of travel – particularly if you travel in a Citaro. It is not just a clear leader when it comes to reduction of harmful emissions. It is also way ahead on environmental protection.

A good, clean job. Starting with production, we take care to make the Citaro as environmentally compatible as possible. The cathodic dip priming process, for example, is almost completely free of solvents. And once the vehicle is finally withdrawn after long and successful years in service, its components can be recycled. If so desired, the Citaro Ü is even available with the "Blue Angel" environmental seal. Another example of thinking quality through to the last detail: typically Mercedes-Benz.

Technology

A pioneer with Euro VI.

The innovative BlueEFFICIENCY Power drive technology was developed especially and tested under the most gruelling conditions from the Polar Circle to Southern Europe. Since 2012 this technology has been used in the Citaro interurban bus. The powerful, efficient Euro VI engines make a drastic reduction of nitrogen oxides and particles in the exhaust gases possible. In addition, the on-demand exhaust gas recirculation feature and the particulate filter ensure exceptionally low emission levels. Thanks to all these measures pollutant levels have been pushed down to the limit of detectability. An impressive advance that sees the Citaro interurban bus once again surpassing all expectations.

A drive technology milestone.

For its enormous efficiency the Citaro Ü has to thank the Common Rail and SCR technologies. The consumption of fuel, engine oil and AdBlue has been successfully further reduced thanks to the BlueEFFICIENCY Power engines with BlueTEC 6 — despite the higher requirements of Euro VI. The Citaro GÜ is available with the OM 470 BlueEFFICIENCY power engine. The powerful six-cylinder engine with 265 kW (360 bhp) further reduces fuel consumption.

Economy can be so dynamic.

Sophisticated turbocharging technology is responsible for the high dynamism of the drive system in the Citaro Interurban's frugal Euro VI engines. The recuperation module with which the bus is equipped as standard makes use of the energy for the on-board electrical system, enhancing economic efficiency and handling dynamism when braking and in overrun mode additionally. And it does that coupled with extremely long maintenance intervals of up to 120,000 km before a diesel particulate filter is due to be changed.

Mercedes-Benz OM 936 h BlueEFFICIENCY Power engine, horizontal in-line six-cylinder engine, compliant with Euro VI standard, 7.7 l displacement. Output: 220 kW (299 hp). The torque delivered is 1200 Nm. The engine features a common-rail injection system. The injection pressure is generated by a high-pressure pump.

Mercedes-Benz OM 936 BlueEFFICIENCY Power engine, vertical six-cylinder in-line engine, Euro VI exhaust gas category with 7.7 litres displacement. Output: 260 kW (354 hp) at 2200 rpm. The corresponding torque is 1400 Nm. The engine features common-rail injection. The injection pressure is generated by a high-pressure pump.

Mercedes-Benz OM 470, BlueEFFICIENCY Power engine, Euro VI emissions category, vertical six-cylinder in-line engine with 10.7 litres displacement. Output: 265 kW (360 hp) at 1800 rpm. The engine's maximum torque level is 1700 Nm. It features Common Rail injection. The injection pressure is generated by the X-PULSE injection system with pressure booster in the injector.

The hybrid module*

Hybrid technology for the drive system

What is better for transport companies the environment: independent hybrid bus models or economical hybrid technology available as optional equipment?

Mercedes-Benz has opted for an innovative hybrid module which is a world first, allowing hybrid technology to be selected as optional equipment for a broad range of buses and coaches with the OM 936 diesel and M 936 natural-gas engines. Instead of expensive stand-alone hybrid buses, numerous models benefit from an inexpensive and efficient hybrid technology. The efficient and compact hybrid module was specially developed for the demands of regular-service buses in towns and busy urban areas. It assists the consumption-optimised diesel and natural-gas engines of our urban buses and thus stands for economy and sustainability.

The implementation of our hybrid module is unproblematic both for drivers and workshops as the selection of the "Hybrid module" optional extra results in only minimal modifications to the basic vehicle. That also ensures that our hybrid technology is particularly affordable in terms of procurement. The module achieves a fuel saving of as much as 8.5 %, depending on the operational route and vehicle version. Thus the additional costs can be compensated for within the space of just a few years; the environment, meanwhile, benefits from the new technology right from the outset.

The compact hybrid system makes your bus a highly economical and ecological all-rounder. And that means that you have the perfect combination between economy and sustainability.

More power, less consumption.

The hybrid module is designed to be both simple and robust: a disc-shaped electric motor is integrated in the drivetrain between the engine and the transmission. Two batteries are installed on the roof. Plus, there is also the voltage converter and an intelligent pulling-away management system with adapted engine control. The electric motor and voltage converter have their own coolant circuit.

In line with this, there is one important factor to bear in mind: just like the Mercedes-Benz passenger cars equipped with a hybrid drive, our hybrid module technology uses a separate 48-volt electrical system. That means that we completely do away with a complex high-voltage system and the associated safety requirements which such a system requires.

The technology operates as simply as it is designed: if the bus drives is coasting or braking, the electric motor works as a generator and creates electricity without using fuel to do so. The power generated in this way is stored as electrical energy. In higher load situations, such as when pulling away, so-called boost phases, the electric motor assists the diesel or gas engine with additional torque by calling on the energy stored in the supercaps. This relieves strain on the combustion engine and thus also means lower fuel consumption. The motors used in the hybrid module correspond to the output values of the combustion engines. The torque generated by the electric motor in the boost phase is used entirely for saving fuel. If sufficient energy is stored in the supercaps, the electric motor can also provide assistance during idling and thus also improves the efficiency of the combustion engine.

Safety

Mercedes-Benz focuses on safety.

Particularly in city traffic, dangers are sometimes unpredictable. Therefore all the more important that measures be taken to prevent an accident. Mercedes-Benz has equipped the Citaro urban bus with many safety features which help in mastering critical driving situations.

MirrorCam

Depending on the vehicle, the images are displayed on 7" and 15" monitors. The two high-resolution displays show the different fields of vision. The photodiodes integrated in the monitors detect the incident light and adjust the brightness of the respective monitor individually. To make it easier for the driver to evaluate the images, the 15" variants have three different guide lines. Together with the permanently calibrated vehicle end line, the distance line assists the driver in assessing approaching objects. The Overtaking Assist overlay is activated from a speed of 10 km/h with flashing, in order to safely assist overtaking or turning. In addition, the display for Blind Spot Assist is installed in the monitor.

The modern MirrorCam system provides a clear and full view of the road traffic. Equipped with high-resolution cameras, the driving safety is improved and the risk of accidents is minimised. The extended field of vision enables the driver to see pedestrians, cyclists and other road users in the surrounding area. This eliminates the blind spot when turning right.

See and be seen.

The vehicle is optionally equipped with long-life LED headlights. The light beam can be defined very accurately. The colour of the light is approximately the same as daylight, therefore the driver's eyes tire less quickly. More brightness and longer range provide additional safety. LED technology has a lower energy consumption than conventional light sources and also contributes to lower maintenance and repair costs due to its longer service life.

Stable and agile.

The Articulation Turntable Controller (ATC) developed by Mercedes-Benz is a sophisticated anti-jackknife system for articulated buses. This swivel joint and its control form one of the Citaro GÜ’s core elements: the hydraulic damping of the joint responds quickly and, above all, when needed. The effect: While the commonly high inherent damping of the joint in other systems can lead to pronounced understeer in curves and increased tire wear on the front axle, the vehicle's joint operates almost freely during normal stable driving conditions, solely dampened by the friction of its components.

Support while on the move.

The Citaro interurban bus supports the driver with numerous assistance systems. The turning assistant Sideguard Assist 2, for example, is part of the standard equipment as is Frontguard Assist, which detects pedestrians or cyclists directly in front of the vehicle and warns the driver. Or Traffic Sign Assist, which notifies the driver when the permissible maximum speed is exceeded. The optional Preventive Brake Assist 2, on the other hand, reacts to stationary and moving objects, including pedestrians and cyclists and warns of a collision. At the same time, it also initiates a braking manoeuvre with partial braking.

Traffic Sign Assist (TSA)

The innovative Traffic Sign Assist offers maximum safety and comfort on the road. Thanks to GPS and camera support, the vehicle speed is constantly compared with the current traffic regulations.

The system is designed to provide dedicated and appropriate feedback if the permitted speed is exceeded. Thanks to the state-of-the-art instrument cluster, the driver receives both visual and audible signals that immediately draw attention to the speed.

360° camera

The 360° camera system consists of four cameras that capture the immediate vehicle environment and generate an indirect all-round view. The associated 10" screen is located on the A-pillar above the cockpit. This system allows pedestrians, cyclists and obstacles to be seen even in areas that are otherwise not visible to the driver. In this way, the system increases road safety, as collision hazards can be detected and, at best, prevented.

The views from the 360° camera are available up to a speed of approx. 20 mph (30 km/h) when driving forwards and always when reversing. Note: Risk of accidents due to objects protruding into the traffic area above the cameras, e.g. protruding roofs, exterior mirrors of your own and other buses, etc. The cameras cannot detect these objects. Particularly in the 360° view, the impression of a free environment can be created even though objects above the mounted cameras protrude into the turning space.

From Sideguard Assist to passenger compartment monitoring.

The best basis for driving safety is a driver who is fully focused on traffic conditions. This is why special attention was given to an ergonomic driver's work area. In the Citaro Ü, the driver has comfortable access to all controls and a perfect view of all the instruments. Further convenience is provided by the automatic transmission and the standard reversing camera. The Opticool windscreen and the separately controlled air conditioning system ensure that the driver is still able to concentrate even when it is hot outside.

The Opticool windscreen and the separately controlled air conditioning system ensure that the driver is still able to concentrate even when it is hot outside. A typical situation: a ball rolls onto the street and the children playing with it run out onto the road. A full brake application is necessary. Using targeted electronic brake actuation the ABS system prevents permanent blocking of the wheels. Additional support is provided via the electronic-pneumatic brake control EBS, thanks to which the stopping distance is substantially reduced as the brakes are activated more quickly and precisely.

Electronic Stability Program (ESP®)

In city and rural environments traffic hazards are sometimes unpredictable - all the more important, then, that measures be taken to prevent an accident. Mercedes-Benz has equipped the Citaro Ü intercity bus with many safety features which help in mastering critical driving situations.

By law, all Class II rural-service buses must be equipped with ESP® since 2014. We offer ESP® as optional equipment for the 12m Citaro Ü.

This is how ESP® works.

The Electronic Stability Program (ESP®) is an active system for increasing driving safety and driving stability. It makes a noticeable contribution to reducing the risk of skidding during cornering or evasive manoeuvres. This is achieved by specifically controlling the braking forces on each individual wheel in situations where the driving dynamics are critical, for example, if the bus is driven at the limit when cornering. At the same time the engine output is reduced. A possible "breaking-loose" of the bus is thereby prevented by the finely metered braking - within the limits of the physical possibilities. ESP® monitors, among other things, the lateral acceleration of the bus. If, on long bends – such as motorway exits – or during rapid lane changes, the bus reaches a critical driving situation, the vehicle speed is automatically reduced until driving stability is achieved again.

Anti-lock Braking System (ABS)

The Anti-lock Braking System (ABS) supports driving stability during critical braking operations and ensures that the vehicle remains steerable. The braking forces acting on the individual wheels are distributed by the ABS so that even in an emergency braking situation no wheel is blocked for any length of time, and the steerability of the bus is largely maintained.

The control unit of the brake electronics records the current wheel speed via the pole wheels and wheel sensors. When braking, the system controls the brake pressure at the individual wheel brake cylinders via the control valves. During emergency braking and braking with locking wheels, the system opens and closes the control valves of the wheel brake cylinders fully automatically at very short intervals, thus preventing locking and keeping the vehicle steerable.

During emergency braking and braking with locking wheels, the system opens and closes the control valves of the wheel brake cylinders fully automatically at very short intervals, thus preventing locking and keeping the vehicle steerable.

The cornering light function

The cornering light function provides even more safety through better visibility conditions at night-time when cornering at intersections and roundabouts and when manoeuvring in forward driving and reversing.

The cornering light function is activated automatically at speeds of up to approx. 35 km/h if the main headlamps are on, the turn indicator is actuated or the steering wheel is turned. One of the two front fog lamps then cuts in to illuminate an area on the side in front of the vehicle that is not being illuminated by the main headlamps. The intelligent electronic system switches the cornering lights on or off progressively in the same way as a dimmer switch. This gives the driver's eyes a chance to adapt to the change in light.

Sideguard Assist 2 & Frontguard Assist

Sideguard Assist 2

Sideguard Assist 2 is a safety assistance system that supports the driver in critical situations when turning right or turning left when visibility is possibly restricted. The system is designed to help detect moving obstacles within the system limits, and warns the driver so as to avoid critical situations or reduce the consequences of accidents when turning off or changing lanes.

The side areas of the vehicle are constantly monitored. As a result, vehicles, pedestrians or cyclists who may be in the blind spot are detected on both the front passenger side and the driver’s side. The radar system precisely detects the movements and warns the driver of possible collisions. The intuitive user interface and clear warnings allow the driver to drive safely and relaxed.

Preventive Brake Assist 2

Warning cascade and braking intervention are specifically designed for use in urban traffic. In the event of an impending collision with pedestrians or cyclists as well as with moving or stationary objects, Preventive Brake Assist 2 issues a warning. The driver is warned both visually by a flashing red triangle in the central display and acoustically, and simultaneously initiates partial braking. This braking intervention is maintained either until the driver intervenes, the situation is no longer critical, or the bus comes to a stop.

Thanks to the interaction of front radar, short-range radar and the front camera, the area up to 250 metres in front of the bus is constantly scanned. This assistance is ensured up to a speed of 60 km/h. In snow, rain, fog, heavy spray, glare/dazzling conditions, direct sunlight or constantly changing light conditions, the system range and detection of vehicles and people may be impaired.

Passenger compartment monitoring.

Installed video monitoring cameras can monitor events in the bus. A video monitoring system can not only improve the perceived safety for the bus driver and passengers, it can also deter hooligans committing acts of vandalism in the vehicle and record acts of violence.

The data is transmitted to the monitor in the bus driver's workstation. The bus driver can then better discern and assess certain situations and events occurring in the passenger compartment and if necessary react to any threat. The vehicle is labelled with pictograms to inform passengers that the vehicle is video-monitored. Together with the video monitoring, they increase the perceived safety for your driver and the passengers and thereby enhance the attractiveness of public transport. The video monitoring system is optional equipment.

For more information on the functioning of the video monitoring and data storage, contact our bus sales advisor.

Only the best for the most important person on board.

The driver must react fast to the threat of an accident, in order to avert the danger. The Citaro provides assistance with its directionally stable suspension and smooth steering. This is achieved by the independent suspension on the front axle.

The pendulum impact test in accordance with UNECE-R 29.

There is particular emphasis on driver safety in the Citaro Ü. The UNECE-R 29 Directive applicable to trucks, which has defined the survival space for the driver in a head-on collision in a truck since 1975, has been voluntarily adopted as the standard for the new Citaro Ü. Compliance with UNECE-R 29 is checked by means of a pendulum impact test.

Protection in the event of a head-on collision which is based on the UNECE-R 29 standard and unparalleled amongst urban regular-service buses, comes together with the even stiffer structure of the frame to increase passive safety.

The driver protection door.

The new driver protection door can protect the driver from unexpected attacks. Depending on the intended deployment of the vehicle and the degree of protection desired, there are four modular constructions available.

Fire extinguishing system for the engine compartment.

If a temperature of approximately 160 °C is exceeded, the driver sees an alarm in the driver's display as well as the message "Engine compartment fire". Additionally, an acoustic warning tone is emitted and the extinguishing process initiated automatically.

In the case of a fire, the pressurised detection line (Firetrace) breaks and sprays an extinguishing mixture made of water, engine coolant and a special additive via a series of nozzles around the entire engine compartment. The water mist evaporates as a result of the high temperatures and displaces the oxygen. The engine compartment is thus cooled rapidly, the fire extinguished immediately and re-ignition of the fire prevented.

Advantages.

  • Low scope of repairs after the system is triggered
  • Fine water mist reduces temperatures are extinguishes the fire immediately
  • Film-forming substances make it more difficult for the fire to re-ignite
  • Not harmful to humans, engine and systems
  • Environmentally friendly extinguishing substance with anti-freeze properties down as low as -35 °C
  • Automatic triggering at high temperatures (over 160 °C or in the case of fire)
  • The system is guaranteed to function in any installation position

All-round protection.

Buses are among the safest vehicles on the road – even in city traffic. Nevertheless, accidents are, of course, sometimes unavoidable. Mercedes-Benz has ensured that the consequences of the accident are as limited as possible. For example, the sidewall reinforcement of the vehicle is an essential factor in its high level of passive safety. In the event of a rear-end collision, the reinforced front section minimises the consequences of an accident and protects the driver better.

In addition, the vehicle has partition walls, grab rails and special seating which absorb energy in an impact or if the vehicle overturns. This provides essential protection for the occupants.

Stable bodywork (body in compliance with ECE-R 66.02)

The strength of the bus/touring coach body is also an important factor for the level of passive safety of a bus/touring coach. Its resilience can mitigate the consequences of an accident. The high strength of our vehicles' bus/touring coach bodies is guaranteed in part by all-round, weight-optimised annular frames. The rigidity is defined in accordance with regulation UN ECE-R 66.02. It specifies the exact "survival space" which must be guaranteed by the structural design in the event of an accident.

After an accident.

The Rescue Guidelines.

Building safe vehicles is the top priority within the integral safety concept of Mercedes-Benz. This also includes all measures that help to mitigate the consequences of an accident. An important part of our work is therefore also targeted information for rescue workers. Because detailed knowledge of our vehicles and their safety systems helps the emergency services to reach injured persons more quickly. And thereby to save lives.

First aid – the kit.

If, despite all the safety precautions, an accident should occur, it is important to provide first aid to any injured people as quickly as possible. As the driver may also be injured in an accident and thus not always able to assist passengers, the first-aid kit and fire extinguisher aboard the vehicle are accessible and clearly marked. The first-aid kit is located in the entry area next to the driver. That means both the driver and passengers can tend to any possible injuries as quickly as possible in the event of an accident.

Legal notice on active safety assistance systems: Emergency braking systems and other safety assistance systems can support the driver and mitigate the severity of accidents or prevent accidents in critical driving situations under optimal conditions, within the system limits. However, irrespective of this, the driver has a duty to adapt his driving behaviour and in particular his speed to the traffic and weather conditions and to be attentive at all times. This applies in particular to special situations such as icy or wet roads, rain, crosswind, poor visibility, snowfall, fog, etc. Consequently, the driver, as the driver of the vehicle, has the responsibility for the entire driving situation at all times and must not rely exclusively on the safety assistance systems.

Assistance systems can only support drivers. The driver is always fully responsible for driving the vehicle safely.

Comfort for the driver

Only the best for the most important person on board.

The best protection for passengers is still a fully concentrated driver. Which is why the driver must be protected in his or her seat from distractions and the operation must be intuitive and the controls easy to reach. The Citaro Ü sets standards in this area, too.

Everything is in the right place here. Nothing should distract a driver from his or her work. This is what we've worked to achieve. The driver's seat position is slightly raised to give better all-round vision ‒ the driver is now on an eye-level with the passengers. In addition, through extending the front, legroom has been increased ‒ while improving collision protection at the same time, too. The change gives an optimal seat position on long working days. The driver's window ensures good ventilation and easy access to the exterior mirror.

Driver's window & climate control.

Keeping a cool head at all times.

The new driver’s window provides better ventilation and easy access to the exterior mirror. In order to maintain exemplary vision above and ahead, the windscreen is positioned 60 mm higher. The destination display has even been raised by 72 mm. This results in even better vision when looking upwards at an angle, for example, when looking at traffic lights. The driver also benefits from the lowering of the side window sill. The higher position of the driver's seat thus improves all-round vision, for example, the view of the traffic ahead.

Ventilation of the driver's area.

There are two more large round air nozzles for air intake in the instrument panel. There is room for a larger pollen filter behind the larger air intake grille which is to the side immediately behind the driver's seat. The new air extraction unit behind the driver's seat ensures greater air flow through the cab. Another new feature: the front box for ventilating and heating the driver's area has been positioned centrally. This ensures more even demisting of the entire windscreen. It is also electrically heated.

Stowage compartments.

The vehicle isn't just comfortable to sit in, it's spacious too.

Additional DIN-compliant slide-in units provide flexible and easily-accessible options to increase storage in the Citaro Ü. There are additional stowage compartments for the driver's personal belongings in the bag compartment and on the instrument support.

Everything is optimally protected in the Citaro Ü – and that includes the driver as well. This is ensured by the driver protection door, which protects the driver from unexpected attacks. Depending on the intended deployment of the vehicle and the degree of protection desired, there are four constructions available. Up to eight pieces of equipment fit into the DIN-compliant slots: they can be easily accessed and easily read. The loudspeaker for the driver's area is also fitted into the frame. If the vehicle is fitted with internal or external cameras, the display is anchored by means of an interlocking fit to the underside of the carrier.

Instrument panel & multifunction steering wheel.

Everything here is totally intuitive.

It is easy to read the instruments and operate the switches in the Citaro Ü. We have improved the shape and the grouping of both, and made them stand out more. Using the function buttons on the multifunction steering wheel, navigation of the display menu is simple.

The Citaro is ready for all eventualities.

The instrument panel is of such a stable construction that additional units weighing up to 1.5 kg and 2.5 kg could be attached to the left and right respectively. In such a case, anchorage adapters and cable ducting can be ordered as optional equipment ex factory ‒ the customer's own equipment can thus be integrated in a much more elegant way than before. With attachments it is important to take care that the driver's field of vision is in no way restricted.

Comfort for the passengers

I feel good here – I'll come again.

The interior of the Citaro inter-urban bus matches its appealing exterior perfectly. Clear lines and functional details shape the clearly arranged and well-dimensioned interior. You already feel in good hands when you get in. This is ensured by the brightly illuminated entrance area and the tidy support rod concept. So it's a good thing that with the Citaro inter-urban bus you can choose between different equipment variants. Therefore everyone will find the ideal vehicle for their intended use.

Your passengers will appreciate it.

With a boarding height that has been reduced further and the low-floor design throughout, entering and exiting the Citaro Ü is easy, ensuring a smooth flow of passengers. Thanks to the new electric, modular ramp wheelchair users are now able to board the Citaro Ü even more easily. A version compliant with EU legislation on disability equipment is also available. The basic version of the all-rounder is designed for 43 seats and can accommodate a total of 82 passengers. The interior has a spacious and airy feel, offering generous standing room, even for tall people. This is also due to the large, panoramic windows. Ample luggage racks provide plenty of storage for passengers' luggage during the journey.

A passenger’s dream.

The ergonomically shaped inter-city seats offer optimum comfort. Due to their shallow depth, the folding seats are also fully-fledged seats. With the generous interior height, even tall people can stand comfortable and with sufficient headroom. The handrails provide secure support. Optionally, the Citaro Ü intercity bus can be equipped with spacious luggage racks. The easy-to-use folding ramp offers wheelchair users and people with reduced mobility comfortable and safe access. Equipment suitable for disabled persons in accordance with the applicable EU guidelines is, of course, available. Optionally, a wheelchair space and an electric sliding ramp can also be integrated.

Make your passengers feel comfortable.

The Inter Star Eco (ISE) seats inside the Citaro Ü were specially designed for rural-service buses and are extraordinarily robust and resilient ‒ yet still very comfortable at the same time. This is because the seat cushions have ergonomically-moulded upholstery, allowing them to offer optimum comfort. They are really pleasant to sit in. And on the occasions when passengers have to stand, they are guaranteed to feel stable and supported using our new, flexible grab rail system.

The best climate all year round.

Especially on longer routes, passengers benefit from the pleasant climate on board the Citaro Ü inter-urban bus. Thermostatically controlled wall-mounted heaters provide pleasant temperatures in winter. The perforated inner ceiling supports the automatic ventilation of the passenger compartment. And the powerful air conditioning* with integrated roof heating increases comfort even further.

Takes the rough with the smooth.

The suspension system on the new Citaro Ü is first-class and comparable to that of a touring coach. The front axle with independent wheel suspension ensures stable straight-line stability and excellent steerability. Independently of the number of passengers or the quality of the road, this inter-urban bus is perfectly sprung in all situations. The vehicle guarantees this using the optional anti-roll and pitching control with electronically controlled shock absorbers. It automatically stabilizes the vehicle, improves roadholding and makes every ride a pleasure.

The rear of the Citaro is also dominated by curves, and radiates modernity with its styling. The economic use of space also impresses in terms of functionality as well as design. The vehicle shows itself as an ambassador for attractive public transport: a positive image which will reflect well on your company whilst also ensuring a healthy bottom line.

At 12.13 m x 2.55 m x 3.12 m (length x width x height) it displays compelling versatility and handling dynamics.
Swift turnover guaranteed.

Comfortable low access height and convenient low-floor design ensure fast boarding and alighting and thus excellent passenger flow. Thanks to the folding ramp, strollers and people with restricted mobility also have easy access in the Citaro Ü inter-urban bus.

A true top performer.

Your passengers enjoy the bright and spacious interior as well as the high-quality equipment of the Citaro Ü inter-urban bus. You yourself benefits from the high passenger carrying capacity. This means that even heavily frequented peripheral lines can be operated with confidence. And because the Citaro Ü has spacious luggage racks, it is also the ideal solution for city tours, excursions or as a shuttle bus. However, the Citaro Ü is not only an economically-effective inter-urban bus, it also generates new income: Advertising spaces on the outer ceiling flaps and the driver's partition offer you an additional source of income.

One of the most agile in its class.

Thanks to independent wheel suspension on the front axle, the turning circle of the 12-metre solo wagon is just 21.21 metres. For you this means: highest manoeuvrability and maximum driving safety even in difficult situations. This is supported by an excellent suspension that ensures smooth running and maximum driving comfort.

Economic efficiency meets driving dynamics.

The Citaro Ü is equipped as standard with the compact OM 936 h in-line six-cylinder engine in Euro VI version. With its powerful 220- or 260-kW engine, not only will you get moving quickly, you will also be doing so frugally. And while its dynamism will make your driver's heart beat faster, its economic operations make it even more valuable to your fleet.

The Citaro LE Ü

A clever connection.

The Citaro LE Ü is the uncompromising extension of the Mercedes-Benz Citaro inter-urban bus model range: By an intelligent combination of the strengths of low-floor and high-floor vehicles, it provides additional scope in your fleet.

The special feature is the combination.

A real low-floor bus as far back as the second door and then a high-floor bus to the rear of the bus: The Citaro LE Ü inter-urban bus combines comfortable low-floor design with economical high-floor technology. This makes it a real asset for your fleet. As you can use the Citaro LE Ü very flexibly, it allows you to fully exploit its potential. Not only in inter-urban traffic, but also on short excursions at any time.

Versatility in three varieties.

Like all the vehicles in the Citaro family, the Citaro LE Ü is also equipped with economical, low-emission Euro VI engines. Protects the environment and your budget. The flexible multi-income earner is available in several variants in line with your wishes and requirements. Besides the 12.20 meter long Citaro LE Ü, the Citaro LE MÜ is one meter longer and offers more space for up to six people. Whereas the Citaro LE Ü has as standard two entrance doors, the Citaro LE MÜ is available as a 2- or 3-door model.

As the engine can be installed vertically in the rear thanks to the high-floor design, the Citaro LE Ü offers more seats and a higher passenger capacity than comparable low-floor vehicles. In this respect, too, it is helping to achieve economic goals.

High-tech to optimise torque.

The 260-kW OM 936 h engine variant is equipped with the Power Boost System (PBS). It shortens the torque build-up in the lower engine speed range by injecting compressed air. This is how the compact engine convinces with the starting characteristics of a large-volume engine.

Low Entry: passenger-friendly and economical.

Low Entry means: these buses feature a low-floor design from the front section up to and including the centre entrance, and a raised floor behind the centre entrance (2nd door). This "composite design principle" provides a high level of passenger comfort, including for passengers with restricted mobility. You also benefit from the uncomplicated and maintenance-friendly location of the assemblies in the rear area.

Exemplary comfort.

Your passengers will be delighted with the clear, spacious interior and the comfortable suspension of the Citaro LE Ü. The overland seats, which are arranged uniformly in the rear area in the direction of travel, offer pleasant seating comfort also for extended journeys. The access in the rear area is also extremely easily accessible thanks to the two low steps, as well as providing good passenger flow.

Typical Mercedes‑Benz look.

With its unmistakable, modern design, the Citaro LE Ü is recognisable from afar as a genuine Mercedes-Benz and an image carrier for your transport provider or bus company. The smooth, well-proportioned sides with harmonious transition to the roof and the rear with dynamic lines create a convincing overall impression.

The Citaro GÜ

Consummate expertise in inter-urban transport.

The Citaro GÜ is the logical extension of what constitutes economical and reliable inter-urban transport. Designed for high passenger capacities. Made for your business.

True greatness comes from within.

Handling large numbers of passengers is the area of competence of the 18.12 m long Citaro GÜ. Up to 128 passengers will find ample space. Continuous low-floor design from the first to the last row of seats ensures high comfort and enables fast passenger flow. The comfortable, robust overland seats and the flexible handrail system are also designed to meet the demands of modern transportation businesses.

A spacious wonder with unique curve technology

Unique ATC safety technology

Front and rear carriage of the Citaro GÜ are joined by a tried-and tested low-floor articulation. The maximum articulation angle is 54 degrees. The ATC (Articulation Turntable Controller) developed by Mercedes-Benz sets a new standard for driving dynamics and safety. It controls the hydraulic damping of the demand-oriented articulation depending on (among other things) steering angle, angle, speed and load. The result is convincing: while the conventional damping of the articulation leads to strong tendency to understeer in curves and higher tyre wear, the articulation of the Citaro GÜ is almost free in a normal stable driving situation. Damping is only through the friction of the component elements.

Safe, manoeuvrable and comfortable.

The Citaro GÜ has the same highly developed assistance systems and a body that is just as stable as the normal Citaro. Despite its length, it can also be manoeuvred safely in dynamic situations. The driver can even manoeuvre it comfortably in reverse gear. This is aided by the independent suspension on the front axle. It makes the Citaro GÜ one of the most manoeuvrable in its class.

Great overall economy.

In terms of cost-per-passenger, the Citaro GÜ results in particularly favourable acquisition and operating costs. This makes it a highly economical solution for lines with high passenger volumes.

Capacity plus quality equals economic efficiency.

With the Citaro GÜ you benefit not only from its considerable transport capacity on heavily frequented peripheral lines, but above all from its high reliability. The Citaro GÜ is manufactured from the proven, high-quality components of the Citaro modular system and displays its compelling quality right down to the last detail. Add to this the particularly frugal Euro VI engines with 26 kW and 290 kW (OM 470). Their efficient, clean fuel burning process means they will soon pay off for you. In addition, the outstanding ease of maintenance of the Citaro GÜ significantly reduces downtimes. All in all this leads to an outstanding sustainable overall economy.
