The Mercedes-Benz eCitaro is at the heart of the electrification of city bus fleets, but it can only reach its full potential if embedded within an overall concept. From infrastructure planning and construction to software solutions and digital services: the eMobility system from Mercedes-Benz sets standards for local zero-emissions public transport with the eCitaro on the quest to create more liveable towns and cities.

eMobility
Electromobility and systems.
The holistic solution for any electromobility needs.
Electromobility and systems.
Turnkey electric mobility from a single source.
The future of mobility is electric. Transport companies therefore have a lot on their plate: creating layouts for their depots, adapting routes to ranges, planning and installing charging infrastructure, planning and scheduling charging operations in real time, ensuring the availability of workshop service, utilising vehicle data and much more. Mercedes-Benz provides you with reliable and comprehensive support on the path to electric mobility. Our experienced eMobility consultants will work both with you and professional partners to develop and implement a tailor-made umbrella concept for your business. Waste no time and discover our eMobility system components that will bring you success in the future.
Our eMobility system components.
The shift towards electromobility represents a programmatic transformation for many transport companies. Battery-powered vehicles make up just one of many elements.
Only with a holistic planning approach that takes into account all relevant aspects of electromobility can the eMobility system fully demonstrate its advantages. A successful eMobility system therefore consists of perfectly interlocking, individual components. Whether as a turnkey service or as a staged service range: our aim is to offer you a sustainable and cost-optimised solution for your electric bus fleet with every component.
System design.
After having calculated your total energy requirements, we create the optimal system design for your depot.
This all starts with a well-thought-out concept. The system design establishes the basis for the best possible operation of your electric bus fleet. The system design includes the layout of the depot as a whole, including the charging infrastructure. It also includes the calculation of the required electrical power and quantity of energy. In addition, charging concepts are prepared where optimised charging capacity is safeguarded by depot management.
Route planning.
With the help of software-based feasibility studies, we carry out energy-optimised route planning thereby reliably calculating electric public transport.
By carrying out a feasibility study, our experts check the energy requirements for all existing routes in a simulation model specially tailored to the Mercedes-Benz eCitaro. The charge level throughout the day is measured and, wherever needed, charging breaks are proposed. Suitable bus routes are optimised for e-buses. Important parameters such as distance, topography, and climatic conditions are all incorporated into the calculations.
Charging infrastructure.
We support you with tailor-made charging infrastructure solutions from well-known European charging system manufacturers.
The optimum operating concept for an electrically driven bus depends greatly on specific operating conditions. Our eMobility experts use the local circumstances to determine the charging infrastructure that is best suited to your demands: whether it be plug-in charging at the depot or a combination with pantographs over the course of the route. In addition, you will also be provided with recommendations for the right charging technology based on your deployment profile.
Transformers.
We will advise you on the individual selection of the right transformer for your depot.
In order to be able to supply a fleet of battery-powered buses with energy, power from the medium-voltage grid must be stepped down to a voltage of 400V AC. Depending on space and other requirements at the vehicle depot, this can be done using a compact transformer or, in the case of larger fleets, using a walk-in transformer station. Experts for the eMobility system will advise you on selection and procurement.
Battery storage.
We give used bus batteries a second life – together with Mercedes-Benz Energy.
A stationary energy storage system constructed from used electric bus batteries can significantly extend their life cycle and further increase the sustainability of your electric bus fleet. They can also reduce power peaks, thus reducing electricity costs. Further optimisation potential arises in conjunction with a photovoltaic system that can generate renewable energy during the day, which you can then use to charge the electric buses at night.
Construction work and electrical installations.
We can offer you the integrated planning and execution of a functioning energy supply at your depot.
Build on our experience and expertise. Our experts will deal with the planning of all necessary construction work for supplying power to your chargers. Charging solutions are set up and installed by qualified specialist partners. Once construction work is complete, the charging stations are electronically connected to your network and tested for their safe operation. The coordination and execution of this is the responsibility of a central project manager.
Spare parts and service contracts.
With OMNIplus eService contracts for electric buses, we offer you professional service at predictable costs.
OMNIplus eService contracts are perfectly tailored to the requirements of electromobility. You can configure the optimum scope of services for your electric bus fleet individually and completely in line with your requirements. For example, the eService ePremium contract covers all maintenance according to manufacturer specifications as well as all repairs to high-voltage components and the complete vehicle, including all the required spare parts.
Charging and depot management.
With the IVU charging and depot management system, we have a strong partner by our side to optimise individual vehicles' charging performance.
Thanks to the professional IVU charging and depot management system, we ensure that your buses are charged and preconditioned in good time with a controlled overall performance. Cost-intensive network load peaks are thereby reduced. Charging stations can be monitored and managed for smaller fleets. For large fleets, charging plans can be created independently, and parking spaces as well as charging stations can be automatically assigned when the bus enters a depot.
Digital services.
We can offer you the OMNIplus ON digital service world for your Mercedes-Benz eCitaro.
OMNIplus ON offers you a wide range of digital services in real time – thus ensuring maximum vehicle availability and cost-effectiveness. This means, for example, that the technical condition of your vehicles can be permanently monitored and service planning can be optimised. OMNIplus ON can also be used to check the charge level and remaining range of your vehicles, as well as to analyse their power consumption.
