An eCitaro in new dimensions.

All new: the Mercedes-Benz eCitaro G

Emissions-free travel, innovative and diverse battery and charging technologies: all combined with the spacious passenger compartment of an articulated bus. The new Mercedes-Benz eCitaro G is the tailor-made solution for high-demand bus routes.

The new, 18-metre-long articulated bus has the attractive design of the eCitaro and the same typical characteristics, for example, highly efficient thermal management. The drive axle ZF AVE 130 with hub motors is also a trusted element. Its peak power is at 2 x 125 kW, its torque 2 x 485 Nm, and at the wheels even 11,000 Nm.

If desired, you can have two such axles: the eCitaro G can be adjusted individually to the desires and demands of transport companies. If, for example, topography or winter service require high power and traction, Mercedes-Benz will supply the articulated bus with two drive axles. This will ensure superior power and traction, even in difficult conditions.

Strong traction: If desired, both rear axles of the eCitaro G can be driven. The solid-state batteries are recharged via plug.

The battery equipment is also modular. Here, the eCitaro G makes use of two diff erent battery technologies. Transport companies can choose between the tried-and-tested NMC battery (NMC = Lithium Nickel Manganese Cobalt Oxide Cells) and innovative solid-state batteries.

The eCitaro G will initially use the NMC batteries also deployed in the eCitaro. In early 2021, a new generation of NMC batteries will be brought in. Thanks to the new battery cells, 396 kWh will then be achievable.

Optionally, the eCitaro G can come with solid-state batteries, a pioneering development in automotive construction. The eCitaro G with solid-state batteries plugs in to charge; from early 2021, various positions for the plug sockets will be possible on the vehicle. The variant with NMC batteries can be charged by plug, pantograph or charging rails. Depending on the battery confi guration and charging system, the eCitaro can currently house a maximum of 146 passenger seats.

The cockpit of the eCitaro G diff ers only to a trivial extent from the standard driver’s seat in a conventional articulated bus – changing drivers is totally easy. Not least, the eCitaro, like every Mercedes-Benz, is also very safe. It is fi tted as standard with an Articulation Turntable Controller and roll/pitch control. Optional extras include Sideguard Assist with person recognition and Preventive Brake Assist, the first active braking assistant for city buses.

Everything in its place: Solid-state batteries on the roof allow fantastic range. Inside, the driver will find the usual cockpit and passengers a well-kept compartment

An environmental label for the eCitaro.

The Mercedes-Benz eCitaro is the fi rst fully electric city bus allowed to bear the “Blue Angel” environmental seal. This has been the German Federal Government’s environmental seal for more than 40 years and is bestowed by independent institutions. The criteria for gaining it are demanding. Among other things, they include a minimum capacity, a long-term warranty and the ability to return the traction batteries. In addition, the proportion of heavy metals in the batteries is strictly limited. The requirements also cover environmentally friendly paints and coatings, as well as natural coolants for the air conditioning.

The safety concept also covers the high-voltage technology, with impact-protected battery modules and well protected high-voltage cables. The servicing provided also ensures safety. OMNIplus has developed a training concept regarding the handling of high-voltage technology for the employees of transport companies. Service points and replacement parts logistics are ready and waiting for the eCitaro G. This is also part of the tailor-made Mercedes-Benz solution for highly congested towns and cities.
